Reid Sheftall, M.D. received a physics degree from M.I.T. in 1978 and became a member of the University of Southern California faculty at age 21. After a two-year stint as a card counter in Reno and Las Vegas, he moved on to medical school, surgery residency, and a fellowship in pediatric burn reconstruction. Dr. Sheftall founded the charity Operation Kids in 2001 to provide free surgery for burned and disfigured children of the developing world. Four years later Sheftall began playing golf again after a 28 year layoff from the game.

Over Christmas break a few months later, he was discovered pitching balls at the TPC Sawgrass in Florida by PGA Tour pros Mark McCumber and Paul Azinger who recognized his talent and encouraged him to play more. Less than a year after that, Sheftall earned a player's card on the Malaysian PGA Tour and has played professional golf successfully since that time. Sheftall is also the author of several books and is a screenwriter and film director.

Dr. Sheftall lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia where he serves as Director of the American Medical Center.
